Introduction Of Literature Review Nursing Essay

Introduction Of Literature Review Nursing Essay Literature review is a body of text that determines the aim to review the critical point of current knowledge including substantive findings as well as theoretical and methodological contribution to a particular topic (Wikipedia). Another definition of literature review is a literature reviews is a critical search for an analytical framework, or framework which you can put to work to test the hypothesis or to systematically investigate a set of issue (Jancovicz 2000, page 178). Literature review is a secondary source that combined with number of articles which have similar objective to form up a literature review. The numbers of articles were multitudinous cross-cultural journals, books, conferences and electronic sources of information. Therefore, literature review do not report any new experimental work, it is the review of an abstract accomplishment. Literature review able to help readers to understand the historical findings from other authors, its objective, it gives readers a draft to understand what was going on from the historical to now as well as telling the reader regarding the strengths and weaknesses of studies within the body. The following are the reasons to write a literature review: Distinguishing what has been done from what needs to be done Discovering important variables relevant to the topic Synthesizing and gaining a new perspective Identifying relationships between ideas and practice Establishing the context of the topic and problem Rationalize the significance problem Enhancing and acquiring the subject vocabulary Understanding the structure of the subject Relating ideas and theory to applications Identifying of the main methodologies and research techniques that have been used Placing the research in a historical context to show familiarity with state-of-the-art development Michael J Baker Writing literature review is important because it can avoid making same mistakes as other people did. As when reading the articles, sometimes may find out the errors or the some outdated information, thus, writer able to filter the information gained and amend it in his or her own articles. Furthermore, writing literature review can help to increase your breadth of knowledge in your subject area. When being allocated to do a research, writer has to understand the objective of the research first before start any findings or surveys. Writer need to read numbers of articles to comprehend the subject area in order to figure out what has been done by prior authors and what have to jot down in current research. After read the multi cross-cultural journals or books, writer has gained the knowledge in the particular area. From reading articles written by other authors, reader can improve his or her skills in linking his or her own ideas to the theories to applications and identify what resea rch methodology to be used in the current research either questionnaire, interviews, case studies, observational trial, experiment and so on. In doing a researchs literature review, writer has to going outside to contact experts in the particular field to gain other knowledge, information, ideas before he or she start to write anything. The Importance of Literature Review There are few types of literature review which are narrative, systematic and meta-analytic reviews. Narrative literature review in overall is the standard review of the literature, critically appraise and summarize the literature relevant to an identified topic (Hemingway Brereton 2009). This type of literature review is integral the points from the number of articles and presented as background reading immediately. This kind of literature review tend to begin its selected topic with explanation of the rationale and by providing some theoretical or historical framework for the research paper and the reasons to examining studies relevant to the topic (Baun McMurray-Schwarz 2007). Another type of literature review is systematic literature review sometimes referred as best-evidence synthesis or practice based research synthesis (Dunst 2009). This type of literature review is a thorough, comprehensive, transparent and unbiased review of the literature undertaken according to a clearly defined and systematic approach (Aveyard 2010; Neely et al., 2010). Systematic literature reviews are lengthy processes that involve a focused cross-disciplinary search strategy with clearly stated criteria for inclusion and exclusion of the literature (Berkeljon Baldwin, 2009). Moreover, there is one more type of literature review which is meta-analytic review. Meta-analytic review sometimes known as quantitative systematic review, provide a statistical review approach to measure the effect size and the aggregate studies relevant to the research question (Sun, Pang Wang 2010; Vetter, 2003). According to Humphrey (2011) stated that meta analysis should also provide readers with perspective so that findings are interpreted in a meaningful ways. Other than that, Neely et al (2010) said that Every meta-analysis is based on underlying systematic review, but not every systematic review lead to meta-analysis. A research project is the make for informing or telling people with new knowledge or discovery. Literature review is important because it is a part of paper where researcher will be given an opportunity to strengthen the research paper by putting citation what other reliable authors had said about your topic. To putting citation in the research paper is for the purpose of to proving that writer is not just writing about any random subject but that many others have also poured their thoughts on the topic (Admin 2009). If without literature review which is no other reliable authors talking about the topic, it is only containing writers opinions about the fact that writer has discovered through his or her research. If the research project is just only contain with writers opinion, then how to further convince the readers? In this case, who will scrutinize writers research paper as he or she does not put any reliable evidence from previous authors who doing the same research in the parti cular field? Therefore, this is the need that is answered only by the literature review (Admin 2009). Simply by the fact that writer is using referencing by citing what more credible people had say about the topic will build a stronger foundation for your paper (Admin 2009). According to the University of Western Sydney (2010), states that literature review is important to build knowledge and to identify the methodology of research and seminal that work in the particular field that writer involve to. Moreover, literature review help writer to focus and refine the research question by convey the knowledge gap (University of Western Sydney, 2010). Literature review is to discover the problem of study however the problem of study can be solved by collection of data. It is important to know that what the researcher doing and how he or she worked from reading their research papers and the current researcher should not to duplicate the works done by previous researcher. Furthermore, by writing literature review, it able to help researchers to improve their research design and instrumentation, which not successful at last time (Cottrell McKenzie 2011). According to Leary (2004), states that a well created literature review establishes creditability of the researcher of the study, so he can get the entire benefit of his work. Literature review is important because it is to judge the research question and to deliver latest research material for readers. Procedures of Writing a Literature Review The procedures of writing a literature review include: Define the topic or research question Identify the relevant information: Inclusion or exclusion criteria and keywords Conduct the literature research Screen all and exclude the irrelevant studies Scrutinize the relevant studies Extract data and develop graphic organizers Synthesize the findings Develop conclusion and recommendations Rhoades Define the Topic or Research Question This is the initial step of start writing a literature review. During this step, it involves defining the specific topic and clear statement or review objectives or research question (Neely et al., 2010). The topic should be the researcher know enough about to determine whether it is viable researchable topic (University of South Australia). Successful applications usually outline a well-defined research problem or area of focus linked to a body of literature that discusses some of the issues relevant to the proposed topic (University of South Australia). According to Aveyard (2010), stated that a good research question acts as a guide, clearly providing focus structure for the literature review process. Identify the Relevant Information: Inclusion or Exclusion Criteria and Keywords After determine which topic to be organized, the next procedure is to identify the relevant information. By identifying the relevant information, researcher has to discuss a series of inclusion and exclusion criteria because the criteria have to fit with their review question and or the brief given by whoever is funding the project (Information and Computer Sciences). During doing the research and collecting the relevant information, researcher has to be cautious of any bias, be subjective, because researcher might introduce his or her bias into the review by adding certain inclusion or exclusion criteria. For example limiting to studies in English may miss important studies published in other languages (Information and Computer Sciences). Other than that, all decisions taken to include or exclude certain studies or groups of studies should be documented in the methods this way it can be seen that a systematic process has been followed(Information and Computer Sciences). If the researcher is doing dissertation research, the researcher has to show that the reason why chosen the particular topic to focus, and why the researcher has to excluded others. During this stage, the decisions from researcher are normally made by using the titles and abstract of the articles. Those that clearly irrelevant information is filter or exclude in this stage and those criteria which met are included in the review. Conduct the literature research The next step is to conduct the literature search by the identified keywords. Lucas Cutspec (2005) said that the search process involve a combination of many search tactics that include hand searching key journals and books, accessing the many electronic literature databases, investigating reference lists, and scanning the internet via multiple search engines, the latter likely to also include grey literature. Usually during searching process, there are included cross-disciplinary in that studies from various field of specialization. For example, there are numbers of journals within the broad disciplines, such as education, health, medicine as well as family-based and children- based psychology that may relevant to some topic that involving with children hearing loss (Rhoades, 2005). Literature search need to be careful as use of many search engines, electronic database and websites that are necessity for. Screen all and exclude the irrelevant studies When all the journals, articles and papers are accumulated and abstracts are read, then need to classify the potential information that relevant to the research question (Hemingway Brereton 2009). After that screened all the irrelevant studies and exclude it, then screen again the relevant information to ensure the consistent relevant to the research question and all identified variables (Rhoades, 2005). Scrutinize the relevant studies During this step, researcher has to scrutinize the relevant study. Another two independent reviewers have to be ensure that the consistency of the inclusion with the research question and protocol. Extract data and develop graphic organizers Findings from the studies of particular field are extracted from data extraction form which is tabulated data. Visual clarifiers can be acquired and formed from the tabulated data to facilitate knowledge of the similarities and differences between the relevant studies (Rhoades, 2005). There are number of variables extracted from the studies and the graphic organizer has to summarize the importance of the variables and the relationship of the variables with the studies. Rhoades (2005) stated that when data extracted for analysis and synthesis, the different studies may vary considerably. This is about when at this point, the determination is to make as to see the meta-analysis is appropriate or not. During this step, if the reviewers feel that the studies do not provide sufficient evidence, then, it is important to present the findings because lack of evidence to prove that their findings are reliable and it lead difficulty in publishing (Alderson Roberts, 2000). Synthesize the Findings With two independent reviewers, finding from each study are aggregated to produce bottom line on the clinical effectiveness, feasibility, appropriateness, and meaningfulness, of the intervention (Hemingway Brereton, 2009). Thus, the pool of findings is name as evidence synthesis (Rhoades, 2005). If the studies involve quantitative data or include not much of quantitative, meta-synthesis is provided in literature review (Rhoades, 2005). Conversely, if the studies involve sufficient evidence and quantitative data, the meta-analysis is conducted (Hemingway Brereton, 2009). Develop Conclusions and Recommendations This is the last step of the procedures in writing a literature review. During this stage, researcher has to include some introduction regarding the studies, roughly review the overall structure of and the contents from the studies and then drawn conclusion from the findings of both secondary and primary research. The conclusion should state the crucial annotation and cover the strengths and weaknesses of the studies in the particular research. After drawn conclusion, provide some potential impact of the research conducted such as its contribution of knowledge or understanding, its contribution to theory development, its contribution to practice and applicant, and its implication for future research (Baker Foy). Thereafter, indicate some potential recommendation arise from the previous sections in term of the implication of findings (Baker Foy). Other than that, due to all studies have its own strong point and its shortcomings, thus, researcher can state some of the problematic iss ues arise when conducting the findings and what improvement should be done. Therefore, it is significant that researcher develop awareness of the problematic issues noted in the review (Rhoades, 2005). Summary Literature review is a must to put in a research paper when researcher wish to write a research articles because it is essential to know what has been done by previous researchers in that particular studies and figure out what should be do in the current study to correct the mistake and error done by previous researchers. Thus, it is significant to read number of articles, journals, books from many elsewhere to gain knowledge from the particular studies in order to have a draft in mind what should be do. Furthermore, there are number of procedures to follow in order to write a good literature review because it may be read by others people to judge when the paper being published. Therefore, it is crucial to write a precise literature review to avoid mistakes or errors and get teasing by others.

My Mother - The Greatest Inspiration in My Life :: Personal Narrative

My Mother - The Greatest Inspiration in My Life When asked who their hero is, most people respond with the name of an athlete or an actress/actor. When asked who my hero is I would have to respond with a simple three letter word: mom. My mother has been the greatest inspiration in my life and is the main reason that I am where I am and who I am today. Born and raised in Richmond, Kentucky, I would like to introduce you to my mother, Vicki Grant. Currently the age of 47, Mom is the oldest of three girls. At the age of 36, mom decided to return back to college to obtain her nursing degree. This wasn’t a hard decision for her to make. The April before she enrolled in school my great grandmother passed away. This major dilemma played a major role in mom’s returning back to school. She had taken care of my great grandmother for months before she passed away, and decided that she wanted to make an impact on the lives of geriatrics. While in school, Mom didn’t have it to easy. Not only did she raise a daughter and take care of a husband, she had to deal with numerous setbacks. These included such things as my father suffering a heart attack and going on to have a triple by-pass, she herself went through an emergency surgery, which sat her a semester behind, and her father also suffered a heart attack. Mom not only dealt with these setbacks but she had the everyday task of things like cooking dinner, cleaning the house and raising a family. I don’t know how she managed it all, but somehow she did. In 1996, my mother graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a baccalaureate of Nursing. Although it took her five years, we were still proud of her and all that she had accomplished. Today my mom is still working as a RN. Although she just quit her job at Berea Hospital, where she had been for 4 years, she is beginning a new style of nursing.

Communication In Health And Social Care Organisations Social Work Essays

Communication In Health And Social Care Organisations Social Work Essays Communication In Health And Social Care Organisations Social Work Essay Communication In Health And Social Care Organisations Social Work Essay Language in peculiar and communicating in general, permeates every facet of peoples lives. It is of import in everything that a individual does, in whatever profession an person might be in. It fosters greater apprehension every bit good the possibility of set uping better relationships between the parties which are pass oning. This paper seeks to turn to the issue by the proviso of the theories of communicating which are applicable in wellness and societal attention, how to utilize effectual communicating accomplishments in such a context, methods of covering with inappropriate communicating patterns, schemes for effectual communicating, and the benefits and necessitate to be engaged in effectual and efficient communicating patterns, particularly in the context of the said profession. The writer will qualify important factors which are assumed to be extremely influential in the procedure of communicating include civilization, values, statute laws, and other ordinances which govern the pattern of the profession. The writer will besides supply suggestions on how the communicating procedure can be improved so that it can be more utile in the field of wellness and societal attention. Furthermore, the writer will discourse the criterion package which are used by the wellness and societal workers in their profession, an analysis of the benefits which were brought approximately by such applications, provide an analysis of how such engineering enhances activities in the profession, and measure the legal considerations which are critical to be understood in the application of the information and communicating engineering. The writer will further discourse the nature of the workplace where the writer is working. The organisation provides attention services for clients with physical and mental disablements and for clients with dementedness. Four theoretical attacks in the pattern of wellness and societal attention will be highlighted in this subdivision: psychodynamic, behaviorist, humanistic and cognitive. The chief foundation of the psychodynamic theory to communicating is grounded on the plants of Sigmund Freud. This does non affect merely a individual theory but stems to a figure of other theories which were all grounded on the foundations of the work of Freud. This theory combines those which are associated to mind which includes non merely the head but the full inner feelings, ideas and experiences and kineticss which refer to the impression that mind is non stable, instead active. Harmonizing to this theory, communicating with the person s ego is really critical as it is the foundation of that individual s communicating patterns to others. One of the basic premises on this theory is that the person is the writer of his ain history ; hence, the person s earliest experiences form the foundations of how that ind ividual trades with others. Such can be modified along the procedure. Another basic premise is that the single lives in two universes at the same clip, internal and external. The internal universe is unconscious while the external is controlled. The theory besides assumes that all behavior is logical and acted upon with intent. These factors are extremely influential with how the single communicates in wellness and societal attention puting ( Ellis et al. , 2003 ) . Another theory which can be noted is the behaviorist theory. The chief foundation of this theory is the impression that all behavior is mostly based on learnt responses about specific stimulations. This can be able to explicate the method of linguistic communication acquisition such as that of the imitative response wherein the baby imitates the sound which is made by the wellness or societal professional, who, on the other manus, reinforces the behavior of the baby. This theory focuses on behavior and foreground the present and the hereafter ( Ellis et al. , 2003 ) . The 3rd theory which will be considered in this paper is the humanistic attack. Under this theory, the individual is the high spot of involvement rejecting the significance of behavior and the unconscious urges which result from the past. Two of the theories which are under this attack are the person-centred theory and the transactional analysis. The former high spots the importance of childhood and current experiences in life while the latter reiterates the significance of personality, kid development, societal psychological science, and abnormal psychology ( Sully A ; Dallas, 2005 ) . Harmonizing to Carl Rogers ( 1902-1987 ) , Peoples are basically trusty, that they have a huge potency for understanding themselves and deciding their ain jobs without direct intercession on the healer s portion, and that they are capable of autonomous growing if they are involved in a specific sort of curative relationship. In relation to wellness attention context, the end of this theory is to do the clients go more unfastened in their ain personal experience, to accept themselves in all facet, and to minimise things that might dispute their construct of ego. To accomplish this, there must be a good relationship between the healer and the client. The healer must be realistic but non violative, accepting but critical to the misconduct of the client. Trust between the healer and the client is of import so the client will non experience societal distance graduated table. It is fundamentally understanding and accepting the client as a whole being, non judging the client s drosss. The 4th is the societal cognitive theory. Harmonizing to Bandura ( 1986 ) , persons obtain more information through experimental acquisition. At place, how a parent would foster their kid can be an environmental factor that influences the kid the manner he behaves. Learning starts from the place whereby a kid imitates the people around him. Behaviour so is being shaped and as the kid grows ; his natural wonder is reinforced by his motive to larn. The societal cognitive theory explains the interaction between the individual and the environment which involves cognitive competences such as accomplishment that are developed and modified by societal influences and constructions within the environment such as parents and society. Use OF COMMUNICATION SKILLS There are many ways to pass on ; it could be verbal, non-verbal, composing and listening. Verbal communicating is used when giving information or making preparations, on the telephone, manus over and when speaking face to face with a client. For verbal communicating, there are things to see like the tone of voice, pitch and speak on the same degree, neer talk with your dorsum on your client. Non-verbal communicating is used for clients who have trouble hearing, deaf and deaf-and-dumb person. Factors to bear in head are facial look, manus gestures, physical visual aspect and organic structure position. Aidss that might assist communicating are the usage of symbols, image cards and communicating board or composing tablet. The art of good hearing is practiced by allowing the clients speak in their ain gait and giving them clip to show themselves. Transmission of information becomes effectual by acquiring the message across clearly and reflects on how the message was conveyed. The benefits of effectual and efficient communicating accomplishments in the pattern of wellness and societal attention can be highlighted by how it is used in the profession. One of the utilizations of communicating in this field is to further the growing and development of the pattern. It must be noted that communicating does non merely exist between the wellness professional and the client. It is besides apparent between wellness professionals themselves. Communication can be used in this field to be assured that advanced thoughts, tendencies, and best patterns are shared amongst the health care professionals and societal workers for the improvement of their profession ( Santy A ; Smith, 2007 ) . Communication can besides be used in the context of wellness and societal attention to be able to advance an protagonism. This sort of communicating is frequently utilised in mediums like advertizements on print and other channels. The usage of media for wellness publicity runs is really convincing that people understand healthy life and what is best for them. Last, it has besides been noted that communicating can be used in the wellness and societal attention puting to be able to further partnership with clients or patients, handle them with regard, provide patients with self-esteem, proviso of practical aid and advice sing their status, stimulate their rational development, better the client s sense of self-being or dignity, fulfill the physical, emotional, and societal demands of the patients and to be antiphonal of their demands ( Haworth A ; Forshaw, 2002 ) . Dealing WITH INAPPROPRIATE INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION To be able to harvest the benefits of a good communicating pattern, wellness and societal workers must be able to properly trade with any inappropriate communicating patterns. For case, any barrier to communicating should be resolved as such can ensue into misinterpretation in the professional pattern. An illustration of a factor which can be a hinderance to good communicating pattern would be civilization and linguistic communication itself. Professionals in the field of wellness and societal attention should see to it that both parties understand each other, particularly when determination devising is involved. The usage of slangs should be limited as it can take into inappropriate communicating taking into misconstruing. Another factor which can be considered as an inappropriate pattern in communicating in the context of wellness and societal attention is privateness. Patients are private persons, their records should hence be held with confidentiality and there should be no prese nce of breach of contract as good between practicians or professionals. Health and societal workers have the built-in responsibility to non unwrap any information without the cognition of all the parties which are concerned. The deficiency of trust of the patient to the medical worker can besides be a barrier to effectual communicating. Last, the deficiency of cognition can besides function as another barrier to communicating ( King A ; Wheeler, 2007 ) . Scheme TO SUPPORT USERS To be able to be potentially engaged in efficient and effectual communicating patterns, as a carer Assorted FACTORS THAT INFLUENCE COMMUNICATION PROCESS IN HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE VALUES AND CULTURE Two of the factors which are assumed to be extremely influential in the communicating procedure, specifically in the field of wellness and societal attention, are values and civilization. These may include factors which are related in demographics such as age, gender, race, educational and economic position, and besides beliefs, among others. Culture, which can be defined as the identifiable incorporate form of human behavior that includes imposts, beliefs, values, behaviors, and communications ( Servellen, 1997 ) , is said to be extremely influential in this field fundamentally because they arise from about every group that are involved in the communicating procedure. In undertaking the issue of civilization and its influence in the communicating procedure, one of the factors which should be understood are the sub-groups, for case, Asiatic. Among the Asiatic civilizations, people from different states have assorted attacks to pass oning. For case, in the Vietnamese civilization, s peaking is customary. Professionals who are working with people who are accustomed to the Vietnamese civilization must be able to take such cultural factor into history so that the communicating procedure can be carried out more expeditiously and more handily. Another factor which should be understood on this note is cultural individuality. One of the inclusions in this individuality is the fact that all people are influenced by cultural scheduling which makes it indispensable to hold an apprehension of that civilization so that communicating can be carried out better ( Servellen, 1997 ) . As mentioned earlier, one of the dimensions of civilization and values which influence the communicating procedure is gender. Men and adult females are of course equipped with differences and such can be reflected in the manner they engage themselves into the procedure of communicating. Having different communicating manners base on gender, reading may besides change in both sexes. Health and societal workers should be cognizant of these differences so that they will be sensitive on how to cover with each patient or client. One of the key to understand these differences is to be an active hearer so that the professional can be able to better understand the patient. The same is true with age and ethnicity. Communication with aged should be done on a different attack wherein the wellness or societal worker should show more regard. A different attack is besides given when pass oning with the younger 1s. Furthermore, each nationality besides has different attacks to communicating. Some v erbal and non-verbal communicating techniques might be appropriate for other civilizations while it may turn out to be rude for some. These should be understood clearly so that there will be no misunderstanding and confusion with respects to the transmittal of the message ( Basavanthappa, 2004 ) . LEGISLATION, CHARTERS, AND CODES OF PRACTICE Despite the fact that communicating in the field of wellness and societal attention is extremely influenced by civilization and values, it has besides influenced the being and judicial admissions which are provided by statute laws, charters, and codifications of pattern. The establishment is frequently left with no option but to follow such judicial admissions as it is a legal demand in the context of their pattern. One of the most of import factors by which statute laws and charters influence communicating techniques can be demonstrated by the fact that such allows the proviso of equality. The bing Torahs which govern the pattern of wellness and societal attention are based on the rule of equality which does non let favoritism of any party, be it a patient or a wellness or societal worker. For case, statute laws such as those which provide just employment, sex favoritism Acts of the Apostless, race dealingss, and others are some of the Torahs which demonstrate and influence in professional pattern. These Torahs serve as the foundation of the behavior of the healthcare professional and organize the footing of how they act and how they communicate. The serious effects of traveling against such statute laws will be undeniably a critical factor in the observation of a good communicating pattern ( Cambridge Training A ; Development, 2000 ) . The Data Protection Act 1984 is a good illustration which demonstrates statute laws in good communicating pattern in the field of wellness and societal attention. This can be able to supply protection to information which are assumed confidential and should be used entirely for the intents known by the individuals involved. Service users could perchance show loss of trust from the service suppliers if confidential information are leaked doing it of import for Torahs to supply protection for such. Certain statute laws are besides made available to supply equality and anti-discrimination in the workplace. These factors are extremely influential in determining the communicating pattern and activities of people in wellness and societal attention ( Moonie, 2005 ) . Furthermore, the judicial admissions in the codification of pattern and moralss in a certain establishment are besides extremely influential in communicating patterns particularly in consideration of the fact that they can impact confidentiality and privateness of information. For case, the usage and entree to the cyberspace for wellness and societal workers are frequently limited and defined by codifications of behavior, depending upon the establishment, to be assured of good communicating patterns and work moralss. The usage of other technological AIDSs can besides be regulated by bing regulations and ordinances to be able to protect the rights of the establishment, the workers, the patients, and the populace in general ( Martin, 2003 ) . ORGANIZATIONAL SYSTEMS AND POLICIES For all concerned parties to be engaged in effectual and efficient communicating patterns, one factor which can be considered as indispensable would be effectual organisational systems and policies. These systems and policies will be able to determine the communicating activities and will do it more appropriate and meaningful. Health and societal attention establishments need to develop systems and policies which can further good communicating. This can include factors which are related to certification, information systems, constitution of processs and patterns. For case, the development of a dynamic and advanced information system can show effectivity and efficiencies in the assorted activities which are undertaken. In the absence of such systems, it will be extremely impossible to convey and portion information which might turn out to be important in the profession. For case, at Ashleigh Court Rest Home, policies are purely implemented. Stated below are some of the policies that t he place adheres with: Whistle Blowing Policy this papers has been written to follow with the Public Interest Disclosure Act 1998, which was introduced to protect employees who blow the whistling about any error. The policy gives clear counsel to all members of staff sing the right process for conveying to attending any error or suspected wrongdoing which they feel could impact the repute of the place, other members of staff, visitants, occupants or any other organisation or individuals connected with the place. The place to the full supports and complies with the relevant National Minimum Standards and Regulations, which relate to the publicity and protection of the wellness, safety and public assistance of service users and staff. It is recognised, nevertheless, that even in the safest of working environments, accidents will happen, from clip to clip. Where and when this does go on, the Registered Providers ( employers ) will stay by the demands of The Health and Safety at work Act 1974. As such, employers must, by jurisprudence, notify certain classs of accidents, specified instances of sick wellness and specified unsafe happenings to the Health and Safety Executive or the Local Authority to follow with the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995 ( RIDDOR ) . By set abouting these presentments, the place will non merely be run intoing the legal demands but will be able to find local spiels and causes of accidents, so that preventative steps can be put in topographic point to forestall return. A written record such as Accident/Incident Report will be kept, of any accident, nevertheless minor, which occurs in the place. Policy on Racial Harassment Every Service User has the right to populate and every staff member has the right to work in the place without the menace of racial torment, favoritism or maltreatment. Any happenings of this nature will non be tolerated and culprits will be capable to disciplinary processs. Furthermore, the communicating procedure can besides be improved through the proviso of dynamic and sustainable regulations which relate to certification, presentation, and usage of end products and studies so that their intent can be maximized by its users and suppliers. The proviso of technological AIDSs and communicating tools can besides assist better such procedure. Furthermore, the followers are other ways by which communicating can be improved in the wellness and societal attention puting: supply communicating entree to individuals with troubles ; be cognizant of the as sorted communicating barriers and develop schemes by which they can be minimized or reduced at an acceptable degree ; teach workers about moralss and values related to communicating patterns ; and strict preparation and instruction to heighten workers cognition about effectual and efficient communicating. There is a demand to do service suppliers understand what are the procedures and activities involved in the complex communicating procedure and the demand to learn them to be active hearers. By making the earlier mentioned, the wellness and societal attention workers can hold an improved communicating procedure and it can further greater apprehension and construct better relationships between suppliers and users ( Malone, 2005 ) . EXPLORING THE USE OF INFORMATION COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY IN HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE STANDARD I.T. Software The activities in the proviso of wellness and societal service would non be possible to transport in the absence of assorted I.T package and applications. Some of these include: word-processing, spreadsheets, presentations, cyberspace, intranet, and electronic mail. These tools are assumed to hold critical significance in the profession as it helps in the completion of daily activities in the organisation. Word processing is of import because it allows the creative activity, redacting, reading, and amendment of assorted paperss which might turn out to be critical with wellness and societal attention work. If these paperss are handwritten, there is no signifier of standardisation and it will be difficult to understand every bit good as excessively slow to carry through. Therefore, word processing is considered as one of the most important I.T. package bundle as it allows easiness in work and reduces the strength of labor in the creative activity of paperss. Spreadsheet, on the other manus, allows them to make mathematical computations with easiness as it has formulas which can do their plants easier while presentations allow them to fix and present ocular presentations in order to pass on better. The cyberspace and intranet is besides a good tool as it allows connectivity between the web of users within the organisation and through the Earth utilizing the cyberspace. Last, e-mailing wou ld let them to interchange information within each other and portion paperss in the workplace ( Cook, 2006 ) . One of the most advanced application of information and communicating engineering in the field of wellness and societal attention is through telecare which is a business-to-consumer service proviso without personal interaction as it merely completed on channels such as telephones and computing machines. This includes services which are related to wellness and societal attention such as machine-controlled assignment reminders and client monitoring services at place. Traditionally, these things are done by trained professionals at the client s place until the origin of engineering which defies distance and allows greater interaction between the users and suppliers ( Niman et al. , 2006 ) . BENEFITS OF USING ICT The usage of information and communicating engineering would hold non proliferated in the field of wellness and societal attention if it did non conveying legion benefits and advantages to the organisation, users, suppliers, and the general populace. One of the benefits is the truth of records. Because of the usage of the assorted applications of information and communicating engineering, it will be easier to hold readily available information about the status of the client and it will be easier for the staff to supply an reply to the concerns of the patients. The wellness professionals are besides able to bask the benefits of information and communicating engineering because such allows them to hold safe, modern, and speedy IT systems which can assist them in their modus operandi, it allows them to use clip more expeditiously, and it allows the possibility of distant monitoring ( Gillies, 2006 ) . Information and communicating engineering is besides good in the field of wellness and societal attention because it allows the possibility of run intoing single demands, it provides easiness in the disposal of intervention processs, it makes the administrative patterns more efficient, records and certification can be more accurate, it fosters better communicating, and it promotes independency. Information and communicating engineering besides provides coaction among users and suppliers which necessarily leads into more efficient service bringing ( Leathard, 2003 ) . ENHANCING ACTIVITIES OF HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE WORKERS Information and communicating engineering demonstrates the possibility of heightening the activities by which wellness and societal attention workers are engaged. This is assumed to be done through the undermentioned ways: efficiency in concern disposal, run intoing the demands of the employees, bettering the quality of service, answerability, and run intoing what is required from them. Because of information and communicating engineering, the field of wellness and societal work is able to see increased efficiency. The usage of assorted tools associated to such signifier of engineering has allowed them to be engaged into better patterns in their profession. For case, the cyberspace and the intranet, along with the methods by which certification has improved, are all seen as extremely contributory to the betterment of concern disposal. Service has besides seen a dramatic betterment because of the applications of the said engineering. Because of such, it is easier to entree records and information, although such has besides been limited by bing statute laws to protect privateness and to advance confidentiality. Legislation To be assured that the usage of information and communicating engineering is maximized and non damaging to the society, certain statute laws, both internal and external to the company besides exist to regulate information and communicating patterns in the field of wellness and societal attention. The Data Protection Act provides limitations and restrictions on the usage and entree of personal information, particularly those of the clients or the patients. Some of this information includes personal information, medical records, intervention history, and recognition information. Record maintaining is really of import and should non be underestimated. Disclosing of information is tantamount to breach of confidentiality. Furthermore, another statute law which is assumed to be important in the usage of information and communicating engineering is the Entree to Personal Files Act 1987 which stipulates general considerations with respects to entree to personal information, specifically those informations which relate to societal services. In add-on to these statute laws, Access to Medical Reports Act 1988 has besides been provided to give right to entree into medical studies for the intent of employment or for insurance. The client, under this statute law, is besides endowed with the right to see the information before it is supplied and can besides be capable for rectification. Last, another of import statute law is the Access to Health Records Act 1990 which is more concerned about records which could be accessed manually. It gives the client or any other representative the right of entree to medical records, in whatever signifier, electronic or manual ( Jones A ; Jenkins, 2004 ) . Furthermore, to ma intain information within the bounds of the workplace, delivery of storage devices are besides limited so as the suppliers can non reassign any information about the service users which can be leaked and used for intents which are non under the consent of the parties concerned ( Moss, 2008 ) . RECOMMENDATIONS AND CONCLUSIONS Technology has brought a figure of benefits realized in the wellness and societal attention sector such as run intoing the person needs, easiness of disposal of processs, doing efficient administrative patterns, accurate certification, and furthering a more dynamic communicating pattern. Information and communicating engineering besides enhances activities of wellness and societal worker such as by bettering efficiency of service, answerability, and quality of end products. To be able to prosecute in a more meaningful communicating pattern, there is a demand to be cognizant and to understand the bing differences in civilization and values because they will be able to further better relationships. There is a demand for uninterrupted betterment procedure in communicating by being able to place ways by which such could be improved. The wellness and societal attention sector needs to place, without a arrest, ways by which communicating can be improved, so that the profession, in general, can besides be improved.

10 Worst Reasons to Quit Your Job

10 Worst Reasons to Quit Your Job We’ve all been there: so fed up it seems the only option is to quit and start afresh. But situations like that call for very careful consideration. If your reasons for the grand gesture happen to include any of the following, it might be best to reconsider. Here are the 10 worst reasons to quit your job:1. You’re boredYour job involves a lot of repetition. You feel like Sisyphus rolling his boulder up and down his little hill. But any job- no matter how glamorous- involves doing something over and over again until you get better and better at it. Remember every job will involve some level of repetition. Ask yourself whether your work is challenging or ultimately satisfying, rather than whether it’s repetitive.2. You feel under-appreciatedYou know you’re awesome. So why is no one tooting your horn? Where are your accolades? Recognition isn’t something that happens overnight- and it certainly can’t accompany every little good thing that you do. Get over yourself; keep working until you have something really worth celebrating.3. You’re still not rich and famousMost people will never reach that level. It’s not a great reason to quit your job. Perhaps you could do a bit of financial stock-taking and strategizing instead to see how you can maximize your time and talents? But quitting because you’re not raking in the dough? Bad call. You have to work to earn that money, you know.4. You’re dauntedYou can see success. But it’s an uphill slog and about 5  to 10  years in the future. Just thinking about it makes you tired. But remember: if you quit, you’ll be that many years and that much hard work behind plus the time and work it takes to get a new job. Better to put your head down and get started.5. You’re not sure it’s worth itYou’re weighing all the compromises and hard work against the possible eventual reward. That’s actually smart. Just make sure you run this by an objective third party whom you trust enough to tell you the hard truth and help set you (or keep you) on the proper path.6. It’s not about youA little soul searching is in order here. Make sure you’re not quitting for your partner or a parent- or worse, because you want to rebel against someone. Listen to the voice in your head about whether this job is on the right track to who and where you want to be in five years. If it is, stay put and do the work.7. Your inner jerk tells you what to doThat meanie  in your head is whispering to you that it isn’t worth it- that you aren’t good enough. That you might as well not try. Your job sucks and you suck, right? Wrong. Tell that voice to shut up.8. You don’t feel importantThis is like a little kid deciding to run away because he doesn’t think anybody would miss him if he left. It’s emotionally immature and unprofessional. Instead: start distinguishing yourself in such a way that you never feel this kind of self-pity. Make yourself indispensable to your company and your coworkers.9. You covet your neighbor’s careerYou’re not as successful as the billionaires you read about in Forbes. Or your next door neighbor. Or your high school boyfriend. Stop spending so much time comparing yourself to the next guy and do your work instead. You’ll stand a better chance of actually succeeding if you devote yourself to what you’re doing.10. You don’t know enoughMissing a crucial certification or skill that you think your field requires? That’s not a reason to quit! It’s a reason to go out and earn that last scout badge. Go out and finish whatever education you need in your free time- you might even be able to get your company to pay for your training process. If you don’t know something, learn! There are lots of great reasons to quit. But these 10  are actually warning flags that the problem is with you, not wit h your job. Don’t stress. Just get back to work.

What is a Federal Perkins Loan How Do You Get One

What is a Federal Perkins Loan How Do You Get One SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips There are a lot of great federal aid options out there, for every type of student. The Perkins loan may just be one of many types of federal loans, but it comes with a lot of perks that make it worth an in-depth look.I'll go through all the information you need about this loan program, before telling you how to get your own Perkins loan. What Is the Perkins Loan? Like the Direct Subsidized and Direct Unsubsidized programs, Perkins are government-backed, low-interest loans that are meant to help students pay for school. Certain federal aid programs don't require students to demonstrate financial need as an eligibility requirement, like Direct Unsubsidized loans. The Perkins is meant for students who demonstrate exceptional financial need, however; as such, there are some extra perks built into the loans. Before I talk about some of the benefits of the Perkins loans, I'll talk briefly about how loans usually work. Then, I'll go into more Perkins loans details, and explain how this loan program differs from the norm. What It Means to Take Out a Loan When you take out a loan, by definition, you're borrowing a sum of money (a principle) from a person or institution (a lender), with the promise that you'll pay this money back at a later date. You'll likely also agree to repay extra money in addition to the principle (interest), over a certain time period (the length of the loan). People usually pay back their student loans by making monthly payments after they graduate. A part of the payment covers accrued (accumulated) interest, whereas the rest of it goes towards paying back the principle. Interest accrues on your loan at a certain rate, usually starting when the loan amount is given out to you (disbursed). The higher your interest rate, and the longer it takes you to pay back your loan, the more interest will accrue. Standard repayment terms for federal student loans (unless the loans are quite small) are 120 monthly payments, or 10 years. Finally, interest can also capitalize, or be added to your principle amount. What this ultimately means is that interest is now accruing on a new, larger principle; the bigger the principle, the more interest will accrue. The rate of capitalization depends on your loan, but some student loans capitalize at graduation. As you might have deduced by now, one method of saving money on your loans is to minimize the amount of interest that accrues and/or capitalizes. You'll see in the next section why Perkins loans make this process a little bit easier on student borrowers. Interest may just come to pennies a day, but it can add up to a significant amount over time. What's Unique About Federal Perkins Loans? In the previous section, I noted that interest usually starts accruing when the loan is disbursed. If I take out a loan my freshman fall, interest will accrue through all 4 years of college. When I graduate, I'll owe my principle + 4 years of interest - and depending on the type of loan, this interest may capitalize when I graduate. With Federal Perkins loans, you won't see any interest accrue while you're in school, during grace period, or during a period of deferment. The grace period for a Perkins loan is also a bit longer than the standard: 9 months vs. 6 months, which means another 3 months of no interest post-graduation. Here's an example of how loan repayment might play out. In this example, I have both a Perkins loan and an unsubsidized loan, both disbursed at the beginning of my freshman year. Even though the interest rate is higher for the Perkins loan, you end up paying out a lot more for the unsubsidized loan: Perkins Loan Unsubsidized Loan Interest Rate 5% 4.29% Principle $5,000 $5,000 Balance Due 6 Months Post Graduation $5,000 $5,911 Monthly payment (based on standard 120 month repayment) $53.03 $60.66 Total Amount Paid $6,363.60 $7,279.2 Finally, and perhaps most excitingly, Perkins loans give students the option of loan cancellation or loan forgiveness if they pursue particular job or careerpaths. If you play your cards right, you could walk away without owing any money on your loans. I'll talk more about loan cancellation in the next section. Loan Details The Perkins loan interest rate is currently at 5%, which is only slightly higher than interest rates on Direct Unsubsidized and Direct Subsidized loans. Like I mentioned in the previous section, interest does not accrue during school, grace periods, or deferment periods. There are no other loan fees. Loan money is applied directly to school-related charges (tuition, fees, and on-campus room and board). If there is any money left over after the loan is applied to these charges, you'll receive a refund from your school. You can use this money on any other school-related costs (e.g. transportation, books, personal expenses). Repayment You have 9 months after you leave school, graduate, or drop below half-time status before you have to start making monthly payments on your loan. The standard federal loan repayment option has borrowers making 120 monthly payments (10 years) to pay off the loan in full. Loan Cancellation Cancellation sounds like it would be a bad thing, but when it comes to student loans, cancellation arguably the best thing that can happen. Your Perkins loan debt could be wiped, or canceled, in part or in full if you spend time working in particular fields. There are many different situations that could make you eligible for loan cancellation.Examples of cancellation-eligible positions include law enforcement officer or firefighter, teacher, nurse, medical technician, and even attorney. Factors such as your length of employment, the area you're working in (e.g. if you're serving low-income communities), and the demand for certain services (e.g. if there's a higher demand for teachers in certain subjects) could all affect how much loan cancellation you're eligible for. Working in a cancellation-eligible job would constitute a period of deferment, so no interest would accrue! You can apply for Perkins loan cancellation through your school, or your school's loan servicer.Don't ever assume that your loans will be eligible for cancellation; run everything by your school's financial aid office first, and don't stop making payments until your loan is officially deferred. Loan cancellation won't be right for everybody, but it's a great debt-erasing option for people interested in certain career paths. Perkins Loan Eligibility and Limits As great as the Perkins details sound (especially with the possibility of cancellation), there are unfortunately some eligibility restrictions and limits to keep in mind. In order to be eligible for a Perkins loan, you must: Meet basic federal aid requirements (learn more about these requirements here) Be an undergraduate, graduate, or professional student enrolled in a participating school Demonstrate "exceptional" financial need. Perkins loan borrowers are typically from low-income families; 30% of families with dependent students who took out Perkins loans in 2012 made less than $30,000. The amount of money you can take out in Perkins loans depends on (1) your financial need, and (2) how much money your school can lend. Not everyone who meets basic eligibility requirements will receive Perkins loan options. As such, it's difficult to estimate ahead of time how much money you'll get through the Perkins loan program. Although there's not much you can do to estimate your Perkins loan amount, you can keep loan limits and averages in mind: Maximum undergraduate annual amount: $5,500 Maximum undergraduate lifetime amount: $27,500 Maxiumum graduate annual amount: $8,000 Maximum graduate lifetime amount (includes any undergraduate Perkins loans): $60,000 The average new Perkins loan award is about $2,000, much lower than the annual limits for both undergrads and graduate students. How to Apply Perkins loans sound like pretty good options, right? You can apply for Perkins loans by submitting a Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA. The application isn't just for Perkins loans - when you submit a FAFSA, you're also considered for Pell Grants and other federal loans. You can get step-by-step instructions for submitting a FAFSA here. Although Perkins loans are government-backed, your Perkins loan lender would be your school, not the US government. Because schools need to have a certain amount of available funds in order to offer these loans to students, not all schools participate in the Perkins loan program. You can find out if a school offers Perkins loans by contacting its financial aid office. As you might have expected, Perkins loan funds tend to be limited, and often run out before the official FAFSA deadline. In order to optimize your chances of getting a Perkins loan, try to submit your FASFA early in the spring semester for the next academic year. For example, if you'd like aid for the 2016-2017 academic year, plan on submitting your FAFSA in January or February of 2016. What's Next? Perkins loans aren't the only federal loans with competitive interest rates. Check out our guide comparing Direct Subsidized and Direct Unsubsidized loans. As great as low interest rates sound, even with the possibility of loan cancellation, there's something even better than money you have to pay back: free money. Learn more about Pell Grants here. Communication between killer whales while hunting Research Proposal

Communication between killer whales while hunting - Research Proposal Example Consequently, to achieve the element of coordination among the members of each species, exchange of information among these species and the environment is key. Thus, communication is the glue holding the animal societies together (Panova, Belikov, Agafonov & Belkovich, 2012).To understand this given subject of communication, evaluating the various modes of signal employed among the animals is key. The existent and established signals for communication include the visual, audible, tactile or olfactory and the medium of transmission is contributory to the adaptability of the signal applied by either species. The transient killer whale as a sea animal communicates through water. Sound in water travels at speed of about 0.9miles/sec (Saulitis, Matkin & Fay, 2005). The killer whales thus rely on the sound production for hunting, communicating and navigating. The species communicates extensively and this study seeks to establish the understanding of the various modes in which the killer wh ale communicates while hunting. It is notable that from previous survey reports from the people living along the arctic, they hear a wide range of sounds from the whales. A recent group survey found that the whales produced over 24 different sound patterns, and another species of the same whales produced about 23 different sound patterns (Cranford & Krysl, 2015). This variation of sounds produced is evidence of the need to evaluate the various sound modes that the killer whales use to communicate while hunting or when having prey. The slightest variation in the sound made makes the difference among the whales for a hard earned meal and having an empty stomach. The marine prey for the whales has also adapted accordingly to the given sounds that the whales make to alert themselves of the looming danger of the killer whales. Objective 1: the first approach to the research proposal aims to establish the usage of the

The Five-Paragraph Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

The Five-Paragraph - Essay Example Climate change made storms fiercer causing numerous deaths and destruction of properties. The deaths associated with pollution are also increasing. O’Toole suggested two ways on how to reduce the problem of transportation in cities around the world. He proposed an expensive solution and a low cost solution. The expensive solution is to build more highways which could be costly not only in terms of constructing it, but also cannot be optimized during off hours. In addition, the construction of those highways takes years to finish not to mention that it also creates unbearable traffic during its construction. The other less costly solution is â€Å"to encourage a few of the people who want to drive during those peak minutes to travel during a different part of the day† (O’Toole). The best way to do this is to charge a toll during peak hours and if charges already exist, make it higher so that people will be discouraged to use the roads during peak hours. This would discourage motorists to use the road during peak hours unless it is absolutely necessary. This solution has many advantages. One is this will decongest the roads because unnecessary travels can instead be move to off hours to avoid the toll or do car pooling to minimize the cost in toll fees. Second, it will lessen carbon emission in the atmosphere hence lessening the pollution that contributed to carbon change and our deteriorating health. This has already been done in other industries such as hotels and airlines where airline companies and hotel operators charge more during peak season and offer discounts during off season. It worked on these industries so it should also work in addressing the problems caused by

Security and Portfolio Analysis (MBA course) Essay - 1

Security and Portfolio Analysis (MBA course) - Essay Example ans, that the price of the security has moved at a pace less than the market volatility while a value higher than the price of the security means a higher rate of volatility. However, the greater the volatility, the greater the returns, of course accompanied by an equally greater risk. Next the trustee alleges that the common stock performance was specially poor for the five year period. The common stock of ATC was 13.3% 14.3% while the Standard & Poor’s 500 Stock Index stood at 13.8% 21.1% over the same period. It is clear that the common stock of ATC had stagnated just with a single point value gain while the Standard & Poor’s Index gained 7.3%. Again the trustee scores a point. Once again it might have been due to a poor investment decision in choosing to buy stocks that were risk-free but gave lower returns. His next allegation is focused on Treasury Bills, a very secure investment, though again the return is questionably lower. US Treasury Bills during the period have gained 3.8%. He continues to talk about the assumed actuarial rate of return. Basic actuarial formulas used to calculate benefits and contributions that are needed to fund those benefits, are based on a series of assumptions such as individual life expectancies, employer and employee contributions, possible returns on investment, salary increments and inflation rate. It is very rare that current plan assets would equal the current accrued plan benefits. So the probability is that a constant actuarial rate of return equal to 6.0% over the period would not match the accrued plan benefits. . Passive investing is the opposite of active investing and involves a buy-and-hold strategy. It is often identified with index tracking. Those who favour it, argue that the market is indisputably efficient, and therefore efforts to outperform the market are likely to produce nothing but a rise in costs. It is also assumed that as much as there are people who might succeed in beating the market, others

Corporate governance Coursework Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Corporate governance - Coursework Example It is consisted of rules, which govern the relationships between stakeholders, shareholders and management (Ching et al, 2006). In the 1980s and early 1990s, some huge corporate scandals shocked the entire commercial world. Majority of the investors had lost their confidence over management of their investments; the entire commercial world was filled with distrust. To control this damage, different approaches are used such as corporate governance. In UK, Combined Codes consisting of various reports has been developed-Cadbury, Higgs, Smith, Greenbury. These reports discuss how a Board of Directors should operate; what role non-executive directors can play; how the external auditor should be strengthened and so on. Stakeholder approach and corporate governance Stakeholder theory is defined as any group or individual who can affect or is affected by the achievement of the organization’s objectives (Abdullah and valentine, 2009).Stakeholder approach defines an organisation being a member and citizen of society, enjoys a protection, benefits and so on. On the basis of this concept, organisations being a member of the society are remain accountable to all the stakeholders such as environmental groups, customers, governments, regulatory authorities, indigenous population and so on. Additionally, Wheeler et al (2002) contend that the stakeholder theory is derived from a collection of the organisational and sociological disciplines; where all groups participate to obtain benefits in a business (Donaldson & Preston, 1995). The supporters of stakeholder theory strongly believe on the concept and application of corporate governance; they require organisations are needed to be accountable for their all commercial activities to the stakeholders. Since the supporters of stakeholder theory strongly believe on corporate governance, a CEO chairing a board, may be working at the cost of other stakeholders. Advantages: stakeholders approach and corporate governance Transpar ency and accountability benefit both stakeholders and organisations. Stakeholders receiving information that an organisation is clearly publishing all its commercial activities and informing to all stakeholders, would be in a position to critically monitor the activities of the organisation. They can easily highlight detrimental impacts and can warn the organisation about its consequences. The organisation would also enjoy the trust of all stakeholders. This may increase its sales volume. Disadvantages: stakeholders approach and corporate governance Additional cost may be borne by an organisation. Since collecting data of sustainability reporting and other non commercial information do not come without cost, the organisation may be required to pay some additional cost. Additionally, for the organisation to satisfy every stakeholder may not be possible, this might result in additional loss of time as well. Agency approach and corporate governance Agency theory was exposited by Alchia n and Demsetz (1972) and was further developed its economic roots by Jensen and Meckling (1976).Agency is a relationship between a principal (a Shareholder) and an agent (a Director) (Siegel, 2000). Principals delegate their business running to the directors, who are the shareholder’s agents (Clarke, 2004). Also, this theory is conceptually simple and it suggests that managers in organisations can be self- interested (Daily et al, 2003).Under this

What does it mean to be a leader in a cultural context Essay

What does it mean to be a leader in a cultural context - Essay Example Organizational culture, as agreed by most of the writers, in a great determinant of person-organization fit. It’s a combined effect of individual and situation response that determines and elicit a response. Kirstof (1996) views person-organization fit as the compatibility between the people involved and the organization; a compatibility of value and expectations between employee and the employer. It often refers to as the congruency of an individual’s beliefs and values with the culture, norms and values of an organization. This is the crux of person-culture fit where according to Chatman (1988), values provides the starting point and selection and socialization processes are complimentary to person- culture fit. This article revived the interest in person-situation interactional paradigms and shed light on various aspects of the concept, providing an insight into various approaches that shows the relationship between the two. It identifies values that are often used i n describing an organizational culture. As per numerous researches conducted, it has been observed that people generally tend to place them in different social categories: race, color, gender, religion, ethnicity etc. and use these categories to define themselves. Based on this, they tend to go for roles that provide congruency in terms of organizational fit and go for such organization which they perceive to be similar to their underlying values. The article, moreover, moves beyond the relationship and focuses on the qualitative assessment of the person- organization fit. It studies the person-culture fit through profile comparison technique in order to determine individual preferences for culture and relationship amongst the two across a broad range of values. (O’Reilly 1990). The results obtained were highly reliable and had strong validity. It showed that individual preference for organization varies with differences in personality characteristics. It also revealed that o rganizations within the same industry also vary with respect to cultural values. Q-sort thus provides analysis within and across organizations in terms of cultural values (Burns & Stalker, 1960). Moreover, person-organization fit also provides useful insight into individual adjustments into different organizations with respect to varying individual preferences. Moreover, high person-organization fit results in high organizational commitment, job satisfaction and hence productivity and growth of both the employer and the employee. In order to get ultimate satisfaction with the work, employee needs to join a company that has value system congruent with that of the individual. There has been a strong relation between high performance and the perfect fit between organization and the employee. Organization culture profile item set includes numerous variables. Of the various items I had a personal organizational experience with, includes being socially responsible. As a part of my value s ystem, social responsibility has always influenced me and I try to integrate it in my conduct wherever applicable. The current organization I work with, exhibits high corporate social responsibility in its business affairs, products and offerings. It believes in initiating environmental friendly behavior rather than merely guiding others to do so. Because I find it congruent with my belief system, it is easier for me to work and is a source of intrinsic motivation. Another item is being team oriented which my employer high

Coaching youth sports Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Coaching youth sports - Research Paper Example Most developed economies spend millions of dollars in promoting sports, training the new comers to it and making people aware of the importance as well as over all benefits of sports activities. This piece of research paper addresses basic techniques in teaching of softball to young players and positive ways of identifying appropriate skills in individual players and explains how sports can develop physical skills as well as self esteem in young people. Coaching Techniques for Softball As Softball is a team sport, it requires using of specific evaluation tools and techniques that can also be used to assess the developments of the individual parts to make up the whole of the team (American Sport Education Program, p. 9). Improving basic physical skill is key element to success of any sport, and therefore, it is highly important that all the techniques and tactics that are planned to coach softball players must be useful to improve the physical skills of the players. Similarly, there a re some non-physical skills like remembrance, mental capacity, communication skill, character training etc that are also important for effective performance in any sport and these are also to be considered while coaching is given to softball players. Evaluating the effective techniques for coaching softball requires understanding what are the essential physical skills required for softball. They are strength, speed, agility, flexibility and power (American Sport Education Program, p. 9). Techniques and tactics can be different from team to tem, from coach to coach, but all these techniques must be able to boost the above mentioned essential physical skills. Prior to starting physical training and coaching of physical skills, the trainers or coachers must convey messages regarding the importance of the coaching, motivate the athletes to improve in their present skills, try to make all the coaching techniques to be given to athletes are unbiased and constant and convey the feedback of the coaching to the, etc. In softball techniques, Hitting coaching is perhaps most important one. It involves quickness, strength and hand-eye coordination etc. While coaching to help players better hit, it must be carefully considered to make them comfortable in proper grip and stance as well (American Sport Education Program, p. 22- 24). Another important technique of coaching is stride, which is a controlled forward move in the direction of the pitcher in order to help the hitter transfer her weight while she swings. Coachers should also train how the players can effectively position their bat and how can they be angled well. Teaching the proper hand-position in bat is also highly important. In each and every step, through out every different move forward and along with different types of hitting, the coacher should teach different stance, hand position and better grip tactics to the players so that they can have gradual improvements in overall moving and other important parts o f the softball game. A well structures and effective coaching of softball with different techniques must be well-planned, considering various programs like a) monitoring academic progress, b) arranging team program, c) creating goal chart, d) administering coaching, e) cooperating with team-players etc (Veroni and Brazier, p. 36). Ways to identify skills appropriate to individuals Players are individually different in terms of their age, gender and physical strength and therefore certain skills are more appropriate to some

What does the fox say Essay Example for Free

What does the fox say Essay Billboard might have already christened Robin Thickes Blurred Lines as the song of the summer, but Norwegian duo Ylvis might have something more to say on the matter before the equinox hits. The Fox, by brothers Bà ¥rd and Vegard Ylvisà ¥ker, has gathered more than 17 million hits after a week on YouTube. It was released in the lead up to the newest season of the bands Norwegian television talk show,Tonight with Ylvis. They dont have an album out yet, but after the overwhelming response several songs will be available on iTunes in North America next week. The catchy tune is paired with the most absurd lyrics this side of the theme song to DuckTales. The brothers muse on the sounds animals make (Dog goes woof, cat goes meow) before asking, What does the fox say? The answer is a series of horrific shrieks such as Wa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pow! and Chacha-chacha-chacha-chow! The brothers Ylvisà ¥ker dance in a forest at night dressed in fox costumes the likes of the Bloodhound Gang. Ylvis isnt new to the comedy music scene theyve been around since 2000 and have five other songs in English. Check out the arguably better Stonehenge, which begins as a mopey power ballad where a successful television show host is kept up at night ruminating on the ancient stone formation. In the past six days Ylvis have received offers for tours and record deals from all the biggest companies, a bewildered Bà ¥rd Ylvisà ¥ker told Billboard, saying he and his brother had no idea how The Fox ended up on the viral radar. Normally, you know we get some hits and we get some comments, but theyre all about the actual contents of the songs. But this was mostly about the phenomenon, which was really strange, even when it was only at 100,000 views.

VIOLENT PROGRAMS ON TELEVISION LEAD TO AGGRESSIVE BEHAVIOR BY CHILDREN

Since 1982, the National Institute of Mental Health, along with other reputable health organizations has collected data that connects media violence, with violent acts. Conclusions deduced from this data prove that violent programs on television lead to aggressive behavior by children and teenagers who watch those programs. Television violence affects young people of all ages, all socio-economic levels, and all levels of intelligence. Today’s children view vast amounts of violence on television. A steady diet of death, killings, torture, and other grotesque acts may be viewed on any day by vulnerable youth. When children are young, they are impressionable to all their surroundings, and especially vulnerable to what they see. Scientific research validates this fact. In studies by the National Institute of Mental Health, educators have learned that children who watch violence often act out this violence. Parents today have a responsibility to ensure their children are supervised when watching violent programs if they are allowed to watch these programs at all. When parents are in the room with children, parents should point out to children that television is not real. Children tend to see television as real life, and lack the maturity to differentiate the difference between news and fiction programs on television. Studies by George Gerbner, Ph.D., at the University of Pennsylvania, have shown that children’s television shows contain about twenty violent acts each hour and that children who watch a lot of television are more likely to think that the world is a mean and dangerous place.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Society sees many tragic examples of research findings on youth and television violence. One such example occurred in Allentown, Pennsylvania in 1999. At the time, Justin Douglas was a cute, intelligent five-year-old little boy with loving parents and a safe; middle class home. One day, Justin watched his favorite cartoon heroes; Beavis and Butt-head, on MTV perform one of their famous arson stunts. The cartoon program, created for a mature audience, often contains foul language, drinking, comments about setting fires, smoking, and portrays stealing as acceptable. Justin tried the same stunt he had watched. The real life result was not a cartoon. His home was set on fire and his younger sister lost her life when she could not be rescued from t... ...fect that the observation of violence would have on the subject’s social behavior. The experimental group, which was exposed to the violence, was shown to push the red button, which was believed to hurt another child’s chances of receiving a prize. More often and for a significantly longer period than the children were shown an exciting non-violent film. The conclusion was that the exposure to violence is related to the acceptance of aggression. All of these studies lead to one thing, the fact that violence affects children and adults.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Before the average American child leaves elementary school, researchers estimate that he or she will have witnessed more than 8,000 murders on television. This steady diet of imaginary violence makes America the world leader in real crime and violence. It is time for parents and the American public to take notice of the scientific evidence that proves the correlation between violence seen on television and violence acting out in our society. To ignore these studies continues the growing culture of violence in our country. As Texan writer Molly Ivans says, â€Å"the first rule of a hole is, if you are in one, stop digging.†

WAR And PEACE And How It Effected The World :: essays research papers

If your computer starts up in the 24 bit version of the game with fuzzy looking graphics, try re-selecting the screen mode from the F11 menu. This should cure this problem. High colour GTA uses a built-in version of the "univbe" display driver to provide its multitude of 15, 16 and 32-bit display modes. If your video card is not recognised by the univbe check, or if you change your video card and the check does not update to it, try running uvconfig.exe in the gtados directory. If that doesn't work, try running 24-bit GTA by typing "gta24 -nounivbe" in the gtados directory. This will cause it to skip univbe and use your video card's native drivers instead. Alternatively, get hold of the latest version of univbe from SciTech Software, and run it as a TSR before running GTA. Windows Drivers ( Grand Theft Auto DirectX ) --------------- GTA DirectX will only work correctly if you have the latest Windows 95 Direct X Microsoft-certified driver for your video card. Your video card vendor should be able to supply this. Some of the latest versions of drivers will allow the use of High colour / Low resolution screen modes (recommended). An example of this is the Matrox Millenium. Gravis Ultrasound ----------------- The DOS version of GTA, run under Windows 95, will not play any sound effects with an Ultrasound, UNLESS you shut down windows into MS-DOS mode, or change the PIF from DOS-Box to MS-DOS mode. DOS Version - CD Sound ---------------------- To allow CD audio to play on the DOS version of GTA, when run under a bootable version of DOS, make sure that you have the MSCDEX driver loaded. On a Windows 95 machine, if you play the DOS version through Windows, or in a DOS box, you should get CD audio. Sidewinder Control Pad - In DOS GTA ----------------------------------- The Microsoft Sidewinder pad is not compatible with DOS GTA. However, it can be used with Windows (DirectX) GTA. Voodoo Graphics (3Dfx) Users ---------------------------- GTA supports 3Dfx Glide 2.

Negative and Positive Sides

Anything that exists has both negative and positive sides of it. What we have to look at however, is if the positive side outweighs the negative side of it. Most of the time people are blind to the positive side and only look at the negative side of things. This is also similar when it comes to hip hop and rap music. Hip hop has it negative side and the positive sides as well. One of the main negative issues associated with hip hop and drugs is usually the issue of its influence on and the promotion of drug use. Drugs are usually the main topic that is discussed in most of the hip hop songs and rap music. Marijuana for one is one of the main things that is discussed and sung of in many hip hop and rap music. Cocaine, another drug is also one topic that has been sung of by hip hop artists and rappers. Cocaine for example has been affiliated with rap since the year 1983. Since then, there has been a ton of rap songs that have actually promoted drug use. For example the song, â€Å"Young, Wild, and Free† by Wiz Khalifa is one that promotes the use of drugs. This can be a very bad influence on its target, that is, the teenage fan base. This is also an awful way to market ones music since it make it seem okay to use drugs and alcohol. Sadly though, the most people affected by this message are the teenagers who are the largest percentage of our population that listens to this kind of music. This can influence them to join the drug abused and even start the use of alcohol. Some other drugs that are mentioned in these songs include mushrooms, hash, purple pills and heroine most of which can be very harmful to the health of a person.Another negative side of hip hop music is that it has an influence on the sex lives of the youths. Nowadays, a lot of hip hop and rap music videos have a lot of sexual scenes in them. This in turn has an influence on the sexual decision that the youths make whenever they watch these videos. They tend to think that it is okay to intimate with whoever they want to despite the number of people. This has led to an increase in the risk of early pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections. Hip hop and rap music sometimes also promotes violence especially among teenagers. Hip hop music are mostly full of lyrics that depict people who break the law as cool and classy people. Rap music also has a negative view toward the police and the authorities. Most of the time their lyrics are full of hate for the police and have praise for people who go to jail in the name of their hate towards the police. This has an influence on the teenagers who may be tempted to think that escaping from the police and breaking the law is the new â€Å"cool† in town. Most of them may end up being killed or being jailed for petty crimes they see as cool. On the other hand though, hip hop has a lot of good and positive sides as well. First of all hip hop and rap music is unifier and an education channel. Hip hop stared as a subculture among the African Americans but has now become a global culture. As a matter of fact seventy five percent of the people listening to hip hop music are non-blacks. Hip hop has been able to unify millions of youths across the world. Nowadays due to hip hop, there has been the rise of street style dressing that has been depicted form the hip hop artists. This style of dressing has been adapted by the youths who are given a sense of identity by theses fashion trends. Hip hop and rap music has also been very vital in the promotion of political and social awareness. Rap music educates people on very many diverse perspectives and has been used to raise a lot of social issues. Rap has been used as a means for people to use to freely speak concerning their opinions on social and political issues. Through this, it engages the youths into becoming aware and concerned of their opinions and issues. This is very vital in enlightening the youth on the world they live in and the challenges that they are faced with in society and how they can change the situation for the better. One issue that hip hop and rap has helped to create awareness is the issue of racial discrimination and the importance of believing in one's dreams.Another positive side of rap is that it gives hope to the people who listen to it. Many rappers rap about poverty and the struggles they went through in their upbringing. When they become successful, they share their stories about beating obstacles and struggling to reach the top. This can give a lot of teenagers hope and can challenge them to strive to be the best. This is because if the rapper could make it, they too can. Through understanding and education, rap music has been a tool to spur social awareness in many communities. Rap music has been used to speak against violence and guns among other aspects of life. Most artists communicate a message of peace and anti-violence in their songs. Rappers like the late Tupac Shakur were most of the time criticized for painting a bleak picture of the urban America through their music. However, such lyrics usually brought awareness to the social problems faced by the country, particularly in the inner city. It is crystal clear that hip hop and rap music serves a greater purpose in society. It does more good than harm. Hip hop has been mechanism that gives a voice to the voiceless. It has become a tool to shape the youths on how to tackle the challenges and obstacles they meet in their lives. Hip hop has also been a toll to unite people from the many walks of life. Hip hop is more than just music. It is a culture that unites the world; it gives an identity to those who feel like they don't have one. Above all, it is good entertainment. Hip hop is thus very much relevant and useful to the society of today.
